Graduation Requirements
The LAUSD Middle School Culmination Activity and Certificate of Completion policy defines the criteria for earning a Middle School Certificate of Completion and participating in the Culmination Ceremony. To participate in the culmination ceremony, eighth grade students at Dana Middle School and STEAM Magnet Center must meet all LAUSD requirements to earn a Certificate of Completion. Students will be evaluated based on the marks and credits earned in the eighth grade. Students will earn five credits for passing each semester course with a 'D' or better. Grades from all subject areas will be used to determine credits earned in eighth grade.
• Students must earn at least 50 credits total when combining the final Fall and Spring semesters in order to be eligible for the Certificate of Completion.
Eligibility and participation in the Culmination ceremony, however, is a privilege that is earned based on specific Culmination requirements. Below are the requirements for a student to participate in the 2024-2025 Dana Middle School and STEAM Magnet Culmination Ceremony:
- Students must earn at least 50 credits total between the final Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 report cards.
- No more than four "U"s TOTAL in Work Habits and Cooperation when combining the final (20-week) report cards for Fall and Spring semesters of their 8th grade year.
- Regular and punctual attendance is mandatory for all students. Student success and achievement is reliant upon regular school attendance. Exeused or unexcused, if a student is absent from school they are missing classroom instruction, therefore all students are expected to attend all classes, each day, on time. Students should have 96% or higher attendance throughout the school year (1 absence every 25 days or fewer than 7 absences for the school year).
- Students must clear all library fines, textiook fines, and/or return their school-issued chromebook.
- Any egregious misconduct may jeopardize a student's eligibility for participation in the ceremony.
Any student not meeting the Culmination requirements as stated above will be notified within 7 days of the Culmination Ceremony. Any appeal of the denial of participation in the Culmination Ceremony must be submitted in writing to the Dana Middle School and STEAM Magnet principal, within three days of the Culmination ceremony. Appeals forms are available in the Dana Middle School and STEAM Magnet Counseling Office.
